Easi Education in Timber

05/05/2010

As structural timber frame construction continues to grow from strength to strength, easi-edge is pleased to be part of the new LICA building project at Lancaster University.

Construction company Morgan Ashurst recently began work on the £5.8m million project and called upon easi-edge to provide the edge protection for the project. Set in woodland, the new building will provide performance space for the Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Arts (LICA). The building also includes three interlinked social spaces, with open-plan offices upstairs.

easi-edge barriers and components are fully sustainable and were the perfect choice for this project. The barrier system is designed to not affect the structural integrity of the build and is quick and efficient to install. In utilising the easi-edge system, the BREEAM rating of the build can be improved - an important element for Lancaster University and all parties concerned as it is hoped the building will become the UK’s first higher education project to achieve the new “outstanding” BREEAM rating.

Special features of the three-storey environmentally-friendly timber building include wrapping the exterior in translucent cladding which will filter varying degrees of light into the interior, rainwater harvesting and sustainable timber.
